Stephanie Leitch
Founder / Co-Director

Stephanie is the Founding Director of WOMANTRA and has been cultivating the online space of the collective since 2011. Over the past few years WOMANTRA has become the homestead for her feminist action but sees herself as part of a wider Caribbean women's movement.

Stephanie's interest in women's rights began to take shape early in her university career at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine, where she graduated with a Minor degree in Gender Studies in 2007 and went on to enroll in the postgraduate program at the Institute for Gender and Development Studies. During her time there, she tutored a number of ungraduate courses, including 'Gender Race Class & Ethnicity' and 'Introduction to Feminism'.

Stephanie has been focused in the past year on growing young feminist activity beyond the virtual space and hopes that one day WOMANTRA's work can expand to include other Caribbean territories. As part of that expansionist vision, Stephanie has extended leadership to Co-Directors Amanda Mc Intyre and Khadija Sinanan in 2014.

Stephanie's ultimate goal is to see WOMANTRA become a self sustaining organization that can function fully on behalf of the communities they serve.

Stephanie is also the Adolescent and Youth Coordinator at the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and a Civil Society Advisor to UN Women for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Amanda T. Mc Intyre
Co-Director

Amanda is a Trinidadian writer and activist. She is a graduate of the University of the West Indies (UWI) with First Class Honours in Literatures in English and she is currently pursuing a Master of Philosophy in the the same discipline. Her thesis focuses on the musical plays of Derek Walcott. Her creative and expository writing portfolios focus on issues of sexuality and blackness in a post colonial context. She is engaged in female centred social programs and is also an advocate for the rights of gender and sexual minorities.

Khadija Sinanan
Co-Director

Khadija Sinanan is an Attorney-at-Law. Born and raised in the village of Balandra in Trinidad, Khadija pursued her legal education at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine (Trinidad and Tobago) & Cave Hill (Barbados) campuses and later at the Hugh Wooding Law School. Khadija was the recipient of a National Scholarship (Languages) in 2008.

While studying at Cave Hill, Khadija was exposed to gender studies and feminist legal theory, through the Gender and the Law course taught by the eminent Professor Tracy Robinson. During law school, Khadija went on to volunteer with the non-governmental organisation ASPIRE (Advocates for Safe Parenthood, Improving Reproductive Equity). Through her experience there, she gained invaluable insight into the gender and SRHR advocacy landscape of Trinidad and Tobago.

In 2013 Khadija was selected as one of Women Deliver’s 100 Global Young Leaders. In addition to her work with WOMANTRA, Khadija is the founder of a mentorship programme for young women between the ages for 14 to 17 who live in and around the village of Matura and environs.
